How To Troubleshoot Cars

Whether the car you have now is something you own or you have leased from a service provider, there is a need for you to acquire knowledge in troubleshooting. No matter how many times you checked on gas and other factors to make the vehicle function, there is still a tendency that you will encounter problems along the way. If you want to know more about proper ways of troubleshooting, read along this page.

Troubleshooting evidently comes from two words – trouble and shoot. This is the proper way of solving problems because of its proactive stance. Although you may always seek some help when it comes to these problems, it pays if you also know how to administer several techniques on your own. For both car hires and owned-vehicles, here are things you must know about your car:

  • Check the car before you drive. Whether you are taking an eight-hour trip or a 30-minute joyride, make sure that you check the car before you travel. This will save you more time and will mean lesser hassles. Basically, you have to look into the features which need utmost concern. See if you need gas and fill-it up immediately in the nearest gas station if necessary. You may also check on hand breaks and foot pedals. It is also essential to look into the wheels of the car.

  • Gas smell. If you are already on your trip and you find the smell of the gas a bit distracting, this may mean that your tank may have been filled over-the-top. Stocked oil or gas which you have not used for a long time may also be contributory to the foul smell. As much as possible, exhaust old gas first and refill it immediately when needed.

  • Hearing strange sounds whilst driving. This is one of the most usual things you are worried about when you are taking long trips. Despite checking on the basics, these cracking sounds may not be determined unless you are already actually driving the car. Here are some of the most troubling sounds you may hear and what you may do about it.

    1. Taking corners. Strange sounds may oftentimes be heard when taking such routes. If this happens, there is a need to replace or repair a damage portion on the area where the sound is most predominant. Go to a car service centre immediately if you have such difficulties on this sound.

    2. Shrieking sound. This is a typical fan belt issue. If you hear such indications similar to crying or howling, there may be a need to adjust the fan belt and in some extreme cases, replacement may be necessary.

    3. Clacking of the wheels. This may mean three things. First, it might be that there are faulty bearings in the area. Second, it may also be indicative of loose wheel nuts. Lastly, you may have driven over some large pebbles that remained stuck in your wheel.

    4. Engine tone sound. If there is an unusual engine sound, this may be caused by overheating of the engine. This is a problem for people who drive in higher speeds. In mild cases, you may only need to shift gears and slow down your driving pace. If there is still a disturbing sound after doing so, there is a need to have the car serviced immediately.
